From American Eagle LatitudesLooking for Estate Treasures in Palm Beach The Palm Beach area, with its clusters of antique stores and wealthy, cosmopolitan collectors, is a world-respected antiques shopping mecca. Locals and travelers-from Madrid to Mexico City-love to visit shops on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach, downtown West Palm Beach and at Antique Row on Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach, where some of the best European pottery, porcelain, 1930s lighting, crystal, and French curio cabinets from the 1800s can be found. Antique Row Plan to spend at least a day on Antique Row, about five minutes from downtown. Here you'll find more than 20 fine shops on Dixie Highway between Belvedere Road and Southern Boulevard, with a few more scattered south. One of them is Palm Beach Vintage, which features a pair of totally different stores-side by side. On one side is a vintage clothing boutique with saucy creations such as Dior gowns from 1960s, Lanvins from 1950s, a Pierre Cardin mink coat with snap-on cap from the 1960s and beaded flapper dresses from the 1920s. On the other side is a large furniture and decorative arts store featuring items from the 1800s-1940s. There are iron chandeliers from France, 1920s Reed furniture like Marjorie Merriweather Post used in her Mar-a-Lago estate, a china buffet from a John Volk house designed by Syrie Maugham and many more pieces that work well in subtropical homes or Florida rooms. |
